20th Annual Screen Actor’s Guild Awards – The jillpasta Best Dressed List

The 20th Annual Screen Actor’s Guild Awards (Jan. 17) were the second major red carpet outing of the 2014 awards season, and the celebrities did not disappoint!  There was a lot of sparkle, a lot of glam, and a couple under-10 year olds that dress better than me (laughs, but really cries inside).  Take a look at my favorites from the 2014 SAG Awards red carpet.  Did your favorite make the cut?

Best Dressed of the Night:  Lupita Nyong’o

To the surprise of no one, Lupita Nyong’o wins my best dressed title for the 2014 SAG Awards, wearing a turquoise Gucci gown with an embellished décolletage*.  I honestly don’t think anyone could have pulled off such a vibrant hue as well as she did–it looks stunning with her complexion.  She echoed the turquoise in her eye makeup — again a look very difficult to pull off on most but was effortless on her — and wore her hair natural and fairly short.  I think the best part of this whole ensemble is her radiant smile–it makes my heart melt!  Lupita was the gem of this red carpet, the entire award show, and my entire life, to be honest. Final grade: A++++. *Can you call it a décolletage when it’s part of a garment?  I’m going with it because I don’t know any other way to reference that part of a dress, but let me know in the comments if you know the correct term!

Second Place:  Cate Blanchett

Everyone’s favorite Elven Queen Cate Blanchett looked looked equal parts sweet, elegant and glamorous in a pale blush Givenchy gown.  I love this neckline on her, as it complements her slim figure and toned arms, and I just cant get over the flounce with the pink sequin border! A matching cuff and dainty earrings were perfect and simple finishing touches to her look.  Cate has such a great eye for fashion, and this was another gold star on her red carpet report card.

Third Place:  Sofia Vergara

Sofia Vergara brought some much-needed sparkle to the SAG Awards in a stunning silver beaded Donna Karan gown and incredible Amrapali jewels.  Glitter is one of my favorite colors (because it is a color…right?), so it was no surprise that I was basically drooling over this ensemble.  Flawless makeup and big, soft waves launched Sofia into classic Hollywood glamour territory and right into my top three.  Full disclaimer, I may have been a bit biased because this whole ensemble just screamed Roger De Bris/Princess Anastasia/Chrysler Building to me (any Producers fans out there?) so it pulled on both my magpie and nostalgic heartstrings. So there’s that, too.

Honorable Mentions

Sandra Bullock looked ravishing in a strapless emerald Lanvin gown with a high split and gorgeous ruched bow detail.  A relaxed updo, silver clutch, and silver strappy peep-toe heels completed her look perfectly.  I’m in loveee with this color on her (maybe I’m on an emerald kick? see:  Olivia Wilde), and she just barely missed out on my top three–that’s how much I loved this look. Ms. Oprah Winfrey knows how to dress her curves and did so beautifully in a deep purple long-sleeved Badgley Mischka gown.  I love her natural curls, smokey eyes, and drop earrings which gave the whole look a relaxed elegance.  I love this color on her, and I think she just looked absolutely radiant. I loved Michelle Dockery‘s menswear-inspired, black-and-white J. Mendel number — I don’t think I’ve ever seen a dress quite like this before.  Bright red lipstick, black and white heels, and a white box clutch kept the look strong and feminine. Dame Helen Mirren put all the kids to shame in a glamorous black and gold embellished Escada gown.  A confident pose, black platform pumps, and an age-appropriate but far-from-boring ensemble remind us all why she is addressed as Dame. Ellen Degeneres’ other half Portia de Rossi was drop dead gorgeous in a short-sleeved Saint Laurent gown with an embossed black belt and an open mesh back.  Please excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor, holy moly. 30 Rock star Katrina Bowden (a fellow Jersey Girl, by the way!) totally rocked the red carpet in one of my favorite gowns of the night: a black sparkly Badgley Mischka number with a gold embellished neckline and cap sleeves.  The top of the gown to me looked like the most glamorous battle armor I’ve ever seen–glarmour?  Okay, that’s a stretch, but I still loved this look, completed with pin-straight blonde locks and a black clutch. Last but certainly not least, the hilarious Mindy Kaling killed it in a deep navy David Meister gown with a cowl neck, chic draping and a silver belt.  A deep berry lip and relaxed waves gave her a goddess look.

Tiny Honorable Mentions

Aubrey Anderson-Emmons totally owned the red carpet again in a deep fuschia Tea Collection cocktail-length dress with a pretty ruffled neckline.  A purple bracelet set, opaque black tights, black patent Mary Janes, and adorable smile completed her look.  I don’t want to jinx it, but Aubrey has this red carpet-thing down pat.  I can’t wait to see what’s next for the Modern Family star. Alice Richmond may have been a plus-one to the SAG Awards, but she definitely didn’t look it.  Her black-and-white dress perfectly mixed lace with pleats, meeting in the middle with a cute black bow. A sleek bun, sparkly black ballet flats, chic black-and-white lace clutch, and big grin completed her look.  This is my first time seeing Alice on the red carpet, and I’m thoroughly impressed–especially having heard that she stole the whole award show in just a few seconds.  My kinda lady! Oh yeah, and her date was pretty okay, too.

The Men

Hubbies Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita must have heard that I loved colored tuxes, because they gave me not one, but two!  Jesse donned a blue Ted Baker tux, and Justin wore an eggplant ensemble, each complementing not just their own hair/skin coloring but each other’s outfits as well!  I almost gave the McConaughey’s “Best Dressed Couple” Award, but the Ferguson-Mikita’s totally owned and earned it.

Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul killed it in a Burberry slate-on-black tux, but the real star of the ensemble was his studded shoes.  Men amping up their footwear game?  Yes, please! James Marsden (Corny Collins? I can’t ever unsee it.) looked amazing in a deep blue Valentino tux which made his blue eyes totally pop and sparkle.  I also love his purple patterned pocket square — equal parts cute and silly! Last but not least, Jared Leto made my Men list again this week in a black Dior tux.  What made this look stand out for me was surprisingly not his long locks (free from last week’s ponytail), but was the choice of a white bowtie instead of the classic black.  It was a subtle change, but it gave the look a little more edge and intrigue. I, of course, had to cut a few of my favorite looks out (I was so sad to leave Isla Fisher and Kerry Washington behind), but you can check out all my favorites from the SAG Awards on my Pinterest board {fashion} red carpet. I’ll be posting all my favorites from the 2014 awards season there, so be sure to follow!  I’m also excited to say that Paris Couture Fashion Week is well underway (literally Christmas for me).  I’m pinning all my favorites to my {fashion} runway board; be sure to follow and keep your eyes out for a week-end round up! 71st Annual Golden Globes – The jillpasta Best Dressed List

Sunday was been a big day for TV — not only did the final episode of BBC Sherlock season three air in the UK (cue the shock blankets), but the big award season kicked off with the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards.  I don’t pay too much attention to the awards themselves because I never see all the movies, so the red carpet is the best part for me.  This has been the first red carpet in quite a long time in which there were significantly more “best dressed” than not, and I’m super excited to share my favorites with you.  When I was writing this post up, I decided that I would not be doing a “worst dressed” list for this event (or any thereafter) because I won’t be indulging in that kind of negativity.  Sorry not sorry; you’ll just have to check the tabloids for your fix. :)

So without further ado, here’s the official jillpasta picks for Best Dressed at the 2014 Golden Globes!

Paris Spring 2013 Couture Fashion Week Recap – Day 4 & 5

I had to take a semi-hiatus from blogging to take care of a bunch of school/internship/finding-a-job-for-after-graduation things, but I’m back!  The world of fashion is quickly changing, and although it seems like Couture Fashion Week was just yesterday, here we are already halfway through New York Fashion Week!  I hate to leave any project unfinished, so before I move onto fall fashion, I wanted to do my final roundup of my favorite Couture Fashion Week looks.  For a more comprehensive look at the collections, check out my Pinterest.

Jean Paul Gaultier

JPG was as crazy as ever, and I absolutely loved it.  Bold prints, bold cuts, and big bouffant hair.  I can’t help my love for drama, and JPG always satisfies my drama fix intravenously. (more…)
